Risk and Return

As the days on the Calendar pass by
I could still remember the first time you said Hi
You wore blue, and I could see your heart was, too
Just sitting there, patiently waiting, if the world will say yes to you

Days turned months, we were torn and twisted upside down,
My worries and fears -- all you knew
You were a good friend,
Untangling the knots in my mind, minding my fiends

Funny how I fought for my freedom,
Yet I kept my heart caged on to something where it wasn't supposed to
As the irony ran through my veins,
You were there, patiently staring, still, admiring

Each time I think,
You were always there by my side
A friend, sometimes a foe,
Yet, everyday was still empty without you

But why? Why me?
I've been a grade A pain in the ass
Yet day by day you became my Sanctuary
A home, my safe place, my quiet space

You married my demons to silence them,
You carried me through my plight
You brought peace to my chaos
You brought hope -- to my adversities

It's a love story,
Hence, I'm glad you tasted the Strawberry on my cigarettes
The bittersweet taste of unsure love -- almost unrequited
But the risk was paid off, and I hope you are happy

Just know that the risk you took
Is the same gamble we take everyday on each other
And everyday gets better and better
And that the world smiles and says YES to you.
